DATA!!!

Online Data

This page was frequently updated with data from the OSCR system during the 4-D current experiment. We have also added two Quicktime movies which show some of the various surface flow regimes that exist in the area. To view the Quicktime movies you will need a browser with the Quicktime 3.0 plugin to view these movies. For Unix platforms, you should use the latest version (2.80.1) of xanim

Data

Quicktime Movies

  • July 18-July 21(71 MB). This rather large clip shows a few of the flow regimes we observed during the experiment. During the beginning of the clip, the Florida Current (strong northward flowing water in the eastern part of the domain) is shown interacting with the outflow from Port Everglades (weaker southward flow in the nearshore). Later on July 20th, a series of submesoscale vortices propagate northward along the shelf break. These vortices give way to lobe-like structures of the Florida Current, and weak flow over the shelf. This is a very large clip, but it is worth the wait.
  • June 26 (20 MB). This clip shows a great example of a submesocale vortex propagating northward along the shelfbreak. The vortex propagtes roughly 6 km in 5 hours, meaning a translation speed of 30 cm/s.

Animated Gifs

  • A couple of vorticies moving through the region on July 19 - 20. (7.8 Mb)
  • Data collected during the Bottom Boundary Layer AUV mission on July 12 - July 13. (13.2 Mb)
  • Data collected during the Mixed Layer AUV mission on July 9. (3.2 Mb)
  • A Vortex moving through the region on July 8(4.8 Mb)
  • Strong Florida Current on June 29 (2.5 Mb)

Maps (still images)

  • Data collected during the Mixed Layer AUV mission July 9.
  • Another vortex moves through the OSCR domain on July 8. See animation above.
  • July 7.
  • Weak coastal currents, and the Florida current comes back onshore July 6.
  • Strong Florida Current on the shelf July 1 - July 4.
  • Larger scale vortex on June 27.
  • A small scale vortex (~2km diameter) propagate through the OSCR domain on June 26
  • The first online OSCR map June 25 17:20 GMT.
